Arakulam – St Joseph Monastery
History & About
St Joseph Monastery, Arakulam is about 19 km away from Thodupuzha in Thodupuzha Moolamattam Road. Fr Richard Kunnuthottiyil CMI took special interest in the construction of a House for the priests teaching in St Joseph's College. The house was blessed and raised to the status of a monastery on March 26, 1989. Chavara Vidya Bhavan (Aspirants' House) was started on June 10, 1988. The decision of establishing a college somewhere in Idukki district within the territory of St Joseph Province, Kottayam was taken by the Provincial Synaxis held at Puthuppally on December 28, 1979. The land for the college was purchased in May 1980. St Joseph's College, Moolamattom, is a NAAC re-accredited A+ Grade Govt Aided College which was first affiliated to the University of Kerala in August 24, 1981 and later to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The college was formally inaugurated on September 2, 1981. St Joseph's College of Physical Education, also known as St Joseph Academy, is a premier professional college for sports established on May 2, 2007.
